Significance Of Professional Development For Teachers In Education

By Margaret Adams

The main role that the administration and the staff of any learning institution are to make sure that the students can learn. There have been many areas of emphasis that have been considered in ensuring that a student achieves what is intended. However, professional development for teachers is of high relevance since it is only the teacher who can make the student learn.

Though most people including those running this sector are not aware, a student will only be able to learn if they are self-motivated to do. To make them get this motivation is the job of the teacher who is in the center of entire learning. Not every teacher can do this, however. It is only those who have taken the initiative to sharpen their skills and experience further.

Getting more skills does not mean one should register with a learning institution. However, even as you are on your daily duties, you can be able to learn from your colleagues. Most new teachers end up resigning from their jobs after working for less than five years. This is because they are not given a good introduction into the industry. A mentor is good since they can give them the necessary skills needed.

A good introduction to the field is good as it makes one get the confidence of working since the mentor can be able to motivate them. More so it becomes better if the mentor is in the same institution with the new teacher. This is so since the guide will give them important skills of dealing with the students since they know the better. This is crucial in schools which demand a lot from the teaching staff.

There is the theory that the performance of a student in academics is heavily influenced by their social and economic life back at the students home. Though it has been accepted that teachers cannot change this fact, the truth is that with partaking in these programs, a teacher can be able to make the student go over it and become better in their class work.

The curriculum is unanimously accepted as an essential aspect of any learning. However, it normally changes from time to time. If the changes are rampant, the teacher may find it difficult to be aware of the new changes in good time. However, development programs can place staff in a good position to learn about the new changes and how they can be taught promptly.

Making learning inviting for the learners to enjoy falls in the docket of the staff, however, there are no defined methods of making this possible except this session which gives them skills of using bringing in new things in the class including technology tools making learning captivating.

The whole sector of education is dependent on the teachers. If the teachers are good and well equipped with skills and experience, then the quality of education will eventually appreciate. It is high time that people stop focusing on other aspects of this sector and channel all their energy in enhancing the teachers capacity.
